Dancehall deejay Mad Cobra was among the guests supporting Spragga Benz at the premiere of his latest film, Unbelievable, held on October 27 at the Miramar Cultural Center in Florida.
Cobra, whose real name is Ewart Everton Brown, has largely stayed out of the public eye since last year. World Music Views previously reported on his appearance in a South Carolina court, where his bail was set at $125,000 after being arrested on drug and weapons charges. He faced a $5,000 bond for the weapons charge and a $120,000 bond for drug trafficking after police allegedly found two kilograms of cocaine and a pistol during a stop on Interstate 95. Days after the court appearance, he gave a rare performance in the Bahamas.
Cobra is best known for his 1992 hit “Flex,” which climbed to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, pioneering a blend of hardcore dancehall with romantic lyrics that influenced artists like Sean Paul and Shaggy. His track “Press Trigger” has also appeared in multiple films.
Reflecting on his new film and the Jamaican music industry, Spragga Benz shared on Instagram: “Dem have Hollywood but dat corrupt so we creating #Jahllywood fi do Jah works. #unbelievable #clean #noviolence #nosex #nodrugs #upfulvibrations @unbelievable_tn #topnotchvision @redsquare_productions.”
Other Jamaican dancehall and reggae icons in attendance at the premier include, Jahshi, Ky-Mani Marley, and Laa Lee. Directed by Cleon A. James and produced by Top Notch Vision Films and Spragga Benz’s Red Square Productions, the film stars Spragga as Chris, a man facing marital struggles over fertility challenges with his wife Faith, played by Charmaine Fenton. Their journey weaves through hope, heartbreak, and potential reconciliation.
Spragga, who debuted in 2001’s Brooklyn Babylon and later starred in Shottas, expressed gratitude for the strong support and hinted at future collaborations. Unbelievable will have screenings in select theaters, in both Caribbean and international markets.
